Caregiving and Your SHG Career

Jul 09 2019

At Stotler Hayes Group we understand the demands of balancing a fulfilling professional career and a thriving home-life.  We think you deserve both.

Recent research from the Harvard Business School indicates that 50% of employees ages 26-35 reported leaving a job due to caregiving responsibilities.  While 50% or more of those surveyed left to take care of a child, approximately 20-30% left to care for an elderly family member, disabled spouse, partner or extended family member.  One of the most significant factors that was cited in deciding to surrender employment was the unaffordable costs of paid help.

New research finds that three out of four U.S. workers have caregiving responsibilities.  Despite the fact that the vast majority of us balance caregiving and careers, less than 20% of US employers offer a subsidy for child care services, and less than 10% offer a subsidy for elder care services.

Stotler Hayes Group was founded in 2012 by two lawyer-moms who wanted to work at an innovative law firm that balanced work, life, and clients.  When faced with the challenge of trying to find a law firm where they could practice law in a meaningful way and actively participate in all aspects of family life and coming up short these two entrepreneurs took action, determined to create it for themselves and others like them. It isn’t always easy to pave a new way, especially when it comes to a profession steeped in history and tradition. However, SHG believes that when you work hard to create the life you want, it will always result in exceptional client service and a loyal team supporting each other through normal ups and downs we all face when you love and care for other human beings.

In an effort to help employees defray the costs of quality care for loved ones, Stotler Hayes Group offers full-time employees up to $5,000 annually for qualifying child and dependent care expenses. For more information on the tax treatment and rules associated with Child and Dependent Care Expenses, please refer IRS Publication 503.
